Yes, TopCashback is legitimate: it's run by Topcashback Limited, a UK company registered at Companies House since 2005, and it pays cashback by bank transfer, PayPal or gift cards once retailers confirm your purchases. The catches are about timing and tracking, not trust. Cashback usually takes one to three months to become payable, some purchases don't track or get declined, and the default Plus membership takes £5 a year from your cashback. If you were going to buy anyway, it's a genuine discount.

Key takeaways

How TopCashback makes money (and why it pays you)

Retailers pay TopCashback a commission when you click through from its site and buy. TopCashback passes some or all of that commission to you as cashback. That's why your cashback only becomes payable after the retailer has confirmed the sale and paid TopCashback, and why it can disappear if you return the item or the visit isn't tracked.

From click to cash: the stages

StageWhat TopCashback saysWhat to do
TrackedUse the "Get Cashback" button; the retailer opens in a new tabClick through just before you pay, and don't use voucher codes the offer terms exclude
PendingCan take up to 7 days to appearKeep your order confirmation
PayableAfter the retailer confirms and pays; on average 1 to 3 months; travel and events usually about 12 weeks after the stay or eventCheck the estimated payable date on your earnings page
Paid outBank transfer, PayPal or gift cards; most withdrawals within a couple of working daysAdd payout details early: changes trigger a 72-hour security hold

Some retailers only allow cashback to be paid by bank transfer; TopCashback says this is normally stated in the retailer's exclusions and terms.

The Plus fee in plain terms

New accounts are put on Plus membership automatically. TopCashback says £5 is deducted from your cashback the first time you pay out in each membership year, and if you don't pay out, it rolls over to the next year. If you earn nothing, nothing is deducted. Plus includes a top-up on many deals and other perks; Classic is free with fewer benefits, and you can switch in your profile's membership details. Our TopCashback vs Quidco comparison sets the fees side by side.

Why cashback goes missing or gets declined

Is it worth it for you?

For planned purchases, insurance renewals and switches, cashback can add up. It isn't worth buying something you didn't need, choosing a pricier retailer just for the cashback, or counting on money that hasn't reached "payable". Read are cashback sites worth it? for the wider pros and cons.

Frequently asked questions

Is TopCashback a real company?

Yes. Its terms say the site is operated by Topcashback Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 05336020, and Companies House lists that company as active and incorporated in January 2005.

How long does TopCashback take to pay?

TopCashback says purchases can take up to 7 days to show as pending and on average 1 to 3 months to become payable, once the retailer has confirmed and paid. Most withdrawals are then paid within a couple of working days.

Does TopCashback charge a fee?

Plus membership, the default for new accounts, deducts £5 a year from your cashback at payout. Classic membership is free.

Why was my TopCashback cashback declined?

Usually because the retailer didn't confirm the sale: the order was returned or cancelled, an excluded voucher or product was used, or the visit wasn't tracked. Check the retailer's terms and claim within its time limit if it didn't track.
